2014 Travel Survey Methods for the Greater Golden Horseshoe

Habib Speaking TTSThe Data Management Group (DMG) within UTTRI hosted  a one-day workshop on travel survey methods issues and options for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.  The workshop, held October 3, 2014 on behalf of the Transportation Information Steering Committee (TISC), provided transportation agencies in the GGA an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in travel survey methods from a distinguished panel of experts in the field and to discuss with their peers options for developing an improved data collection program for the GGH. While the Transportation Tomorrow Survey, TTS, has been an extremely successful method for efficiently gathering standardized, high quality travel information for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) region over the past 25 years, changes in communications technologies (increased use of smart-phones, decreased use of land-line phones) and other methodological issues are presenting increasing challenges to the current TTS method. These issues are not unique to TTS. As documented in a recent major study (Word download) for the Transportation Association of Canada, transportation agencies across the country are facing similar challenges.
