Professor Robert Cervero‘s lecture on Monday, March 20, 2017 focused on how network design, mixed land use patterns, amenities, and natural landscape influence active commuting, focusing on cycling but also walking and running to work. Professor Cervero kindly offered to share slides from his presentation, and UTTRI is very pleased to make the PDF file available here:

Beyond Mobility: Cities for People and Places, Cervero’s forthcoming book, mentioned during his talk, will be published by Island Press and available by August 2017.
Professor Brent Sleep, Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering which organizes the annual Distinguished Lecture Series, gave a warm welcome and opening remarks. He then introduced Professor Paul Hess of Geography and Planning who in turn introduced the evening’s featured speaker, Robert Cervero.
Following Professor Cervero’s presentation, Professor Hess moderated a panel that included Geoff Wright, Commissioner of Transportation and Works, City of Mississauga; Barbara Gray, General Manager, Transportation Services, City of Toronto; and Steven Farber, Assistant Professor, Department of Human Geography, UTSC.
UTTRI Director, Professor Eric J. Miller, thanked Professor Cervero, the panel and the audience for their contributions to the event.
The well-attended evening was part of the Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Toronto. Each year UTTRI has an opportunity to invite one leader in our field for this series: someone who will share insights developed over a distinguished career with our alumni, partners and colleagues in industry and government.
