The transfer experience has room for improvement, according to researcher Rebecca Nelson, who recently completed a study for Metrolinx entitled Intermodal Connectivity at Gateway Hubs.
Nelson’s recommendations to make transfers easier, faster, and more pleasant for users include:
- improved wayfinding, including maps and signs
- better-marked pedestrian routes
- more amenities, such as seating
- protections from harsh winter conditions
Rebecca Nelson is a Masters of Planning student at the University of Toronto, interested in environmental issues, specifically related to sustainable development, transportation, green spaces and urban planning. Intermodal Connectivity at Gateway Hubs was made possible by a Rob MacIsaac Fellowship at Metrolinx.
