UTTRI associated faculty and Interim Director, School of Cities, Professor Matti Siemiatycki was interviewed on CTV television program “Your Morning” February 22, 2019 in “How suburban areas are dealing with the lack of transportation options.”

He talked about improving the efficiency and lowering the cost of providing transportation services to smaller towns and communities in the region. Innisfil, Ontario’s use of Uber services, and the testing of an app for “on-demand” night bus service were two examples.

“Venture capital money is pouring into this sector. There’s a huge interest in trying to address commuting and congestion, and small communities are a key place where they’re looking for options.”

Siemiatycki also noted that a lot of companies are allowing employees to work at home more frequently, and that “we are seeing innovation around telecommuting as well.”
