How much will we pay for the REM? It depends on the number of riders. Professor Matti Siemiatycki commented in the Montreal Gazette Feb. 15 on the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) project which is funded by the provincial and federal governments, the city of Montréal, Hydro-Québec and Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM).
The majority owner of the train service, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, will charge the regional public transit authority for each passenger who rides on it.
The amount the Caisse charges the government drops per trip as more passengers ride the system.
