The Department of Geography and Planning has created a new concentration, Transportation Planning and Infrastructure, in the Master of Science in Planning program (MScPl). This concentration was approved through Faculty governance in December 2017 and will be effective as of September 2018.
Transportation and infrastructure planning are integral to urban planning, and the creation of this concentration will catalyze the formation of a more explicit, purposeful and energetic hub of research and practice oriented around transportation planning and infrastructure issues. The concentration will focus on developing students’ capacity to understand the dynamic relationship between social, economic and environmental sustainability and the planning, implementation and maintenance of transportation and other forms of infrastructure investments.
The concentration builds on the department’s existing strengths in this area. There is a critical mass of existing faculty who work in the area of transportation analysis and planning, urban form, spatial analysis and GIS/Spatial Science, including Professors Matti Siemiatycki, Paul Hess, Michael Widener, Steven Farber, Matt Adams, Don Boyes, Anna Kramer, Ron Buliung, Andre Sorensen and Richard DiFrancesco.
Course requirements
To complete this concentration, students must complete five half courses including PLA1703H, PLA1801H, JPG1554H, and JPG1400H, in addition to one other course (1.0 HCE) shown in the listing below. Other courses not listed below may be used for the 1.0 HCE requirement on the approval of the Director of Planning.
