UTTRI associated faculty Professor Matti Siemiatycki is confident that transit riders will return, although it may take time.

He speaks out in an article about the STM (Société de transport de Montréal), which is working hard and employing a variety of strategies to recover its ridership to 100% of pre-pandemic levels. They are at 58% as at early December.

“The view is that this is a shock to the system, and that transit will re-emerge,” he said. “It will take time. As cities reopen and people are more out and about, transit will recover.” – Matti Siemiatycki
