UTTRI associated faculty Professor Shoshanna Saxe makes a case for improving shared infrastructure and investing in transit in “Could “Amtrak Joe” Revolutionize Public Transport?”.

The article focuses on President Biden’s interest in revitalizing the railroad networks in the United States:

In December 2019, he [Biden] claimed that his presidential administration “will spark the second great railroad revolution to propel our nation’s infrastructure into the future and help solve the climate emergency.”

Professor Saxe, Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Infrastructure, thinks that the timing may be right.

“There’s going to be an opportunity to invest for the future coming out of Covid. There’s a lot of stimulus money likely coming. There’s pent-up demand to do things, and we can direct that toward making better shared infrastructure, and invest in public transit,” she said.
