UTTRI associated faculty Professor Steven Farber was quoted in “Why Public Transit Should Be Free For All” published online by The Bullet, February 23, 2020. The article discusses impacts of the existing prioritization of private automobiles over public transit, including harm to the environment and to “marginalized citizens, who often can’t afford cars, from fully participating in our economy, politics and culture.”

A recent research paper co-authored by Professor Farber with Jeff Allen, is quoted extensively. “Sizing up transport poverty: A national scale accounting of low-income households suffering from inaccessibility in Canada, and what to do about it” was published in Transport Policy, Volume 74, February 2019, Pages 214-223.

According to the Transport Policy paper:

“… the time is right for a national accounting of those living in transport poverty, and the development of a national transport and land use strategy for alleviating the risks of accessibility deprivation.”
