UTTRI Director Professor Eric Miller gave a presentation entitled “Everything you ever wanted to know about report writing but were afraid to ask” to help students organize their writing for academic purposes and business reports. The informative session was part of the UT-ITE seminar series held on March 6, 2020, and attracted a wide variety of students.

Professor Miller presented an overview of the various elements of a good technical report. He discussed report structure, grammar and syntax, style of writing, spelling, word usage and referencing.

Some of his key points were:

    • be consistent with the form
    • maintain the flow of the paper
    • don’t be a Shakespeare – write to the point
    • don’t be argumentative
    • focus on the articles
