
On Friday, September 20, Professor Khandker Nurul Habib presented a seminar introducing the transportation research happening at the University of Toronto. Entitled “Graduate studies in transportation at U of T: Things to know and follow,” the seminar was part of the UT-ITE seminar series, and attracted a wide variety of attendees along with many graduate students.
Professor Habib began the session with a very informative presentation on the extensive research conducted at UTTRI, which is one of the largest transportation institutes in North America. Next, Professor Habib gave a general overview of the renowned UTTRI faculty associated with the various research groups working in different areas, namely:
- Freight Transportation
- Travel Demand and Land Use Modelling
- Emission Modelling and Sustainable Transportation
- Intelligent Transportation Systems
- Public Transit Operation and Modelling

Lastly, Professor Habib shared some insightful tips on:
- how to come up with a good research methodology
- how to a maintain a positive and productive student-mentor relationship

Professor Khandker Nurul Habib is Percy Edward Hart Professor in Civil and Mineral Engineering,
Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering, and Associate Director of the Data Management Group (DMG) at the University of Toronto.
He leads research programs in sustainable transportation planning, demand modelling and travel survey methods (the Travel Demand Modelling Group: TDMG) at the University of Toronto Transportation Research Institute. He has extensive research and consulting experience in transportation engineering and planning.
